High Protein Diets and Weight Loss
There is evidence that a high protein diet can help in weight loss control. Whether this is sustained in the long term is not clear and much more research is needed. There is some preliminary evidence that a high protein diet during weight loss may protect lean mass, but results are mixed. There is also good evidence that replacement of carbohydrates with protein lowers serum triglyceride levels. The effect on LDL depends on the level of saturated fat consumed with the protein.
