WHEN:
Experts are available on an ongoing basis.

WHAT:
The soy industry agrees with the American Heart Association (AHA) that soy protein is a healthy ingredient that belongs in a heart-healthy diet. Rich in polyunsaturated fats and low in saturated fats, soyfoods also contain dietary fiber, deliver high-quality lean protein and contribute key vitamins and minerals, such as calcium and potassium. Soyfoods are a delicious and nutritious part of a healthy, balanced diet.

The Soy Nutrition Institute (SNI) can provide experts to address questions about soy’s heart health benefits (below) in response to an AHA committee’s statement recently published in the journal Circulation. Media are also invited to view and download video clips of experts discussing this matter.

WHO:
Dr. Mark Messina, Nutrition Matters, Port Townsend, WA
Dr. Messina, formerly with the National Cancer Institute, writes extensively on the health benefits of soyfoods and on plant-based diets and has given more than 200 presentations to consumers and professionals on these topics.

Kerry Neville, MS, RD, Seattle, WA
Ms. Neville is a registered dietitian and former nutritionist for Chicago’s Fox News in the Morning program. She has coauthored articles in The Journal of the American Dietetic Association, and also holds a Certificate of Professional Cooking.
